Atlas Lion Sailors Ready to Roar

Group C of the SSL Gold Cup qualifiers will feature SSL Team Morocco alongside Mozambique, Seychelles, and Tahiti. The teams will compete for one of two “golden tickets” to Rio de Janeiro and a place in the final stage of the tournament.

Moroccan sailing is preparing for a major milestone in 2026 as the country gets ready to compete in the prestigious SSL Gold Cup, often called the “Football World Cup in Sailing.”

According to the Royal Moroccan Sailing Federation, the national team selection process followed strict criteria. Sailors needed to win Moroccan championship titles multiple times and compete regularly in official events. After this process, the federation selected the first group of qualified athletes for the SSL Team Morocco.

For Morocco, this first participation is not only about taking part. The team wants to achieve an important result and compete with some of the best sailing nations in the world. Before reaching the finals in Brazil, however, Team Morocco must first pass the qualification stage in Switzerland (2-6 June 2026).

The upcoming event is expected to bring exciting racing, strong international competition, and a historic moment for Moroccan sailing on the global stage.

Zineb Harris, the team’s tactician, shared the team’s excitement ahead of the competition.

“We’re so excited to finally compete and put our practice and training into action and results. This is an important opportunity for us to proudly represent our country in this major event. We are ready to deliver a memorable performance and secure a place at the Football World Cup in Sailing 2026.”
